Laura Mickey
Laura Mickey is a graduate of La Roche College with a BA in dance and a minor in business management.
Laura expressed her love for dance at a very young age and began training in a small studio in the rural town of Bedford, Pennsylvania. There she trained in ballet, tap and jazz under Nancy Cogan Hershberger. During her high school years, Laura attended summer dance programs including Philadanco (Philadelphia Dance Company) and the Pittsburgh Youth Ballet.
At La Roche, Laura performed many classical works, including “Giselle,” “Swan Lake Act II,” “Sleeping Beauty” and “Cinderella,” under the artistic direction of Gerard W. Holt. With Gerard, Laura also performed many original pieces, both contemporary and classical, and performed in many works by Lana Novodran, Miriam Scigliano, and Gina Marie Desko. Laura also performed in La Roche’s annual spring showcases at the Byham Theater in downtown Pittsburgh. Additionally, Laura has choreographed several dances for the dance department’s annual student workshop Choreographer’s Series and performed in an array of other students’ works.
Laura started teaching while at Nancy Cogan’s School of dance. She began substituting during her time at La Roche and continues to do so, along with regularly performing and choreographing for their annual student show. Laura believes the expressive art of dance is a breathtaking way to stay in touch with the world and she carries that thought with her in performing and teaching.
